Portland General Electric has procured 400MW of BESS resources split across two large-scale projects in the Oregon utility’s service area.

NextEra Energy Resources has brought into operation a renewable energy project combining wind, solar PV and battery storage in Oregon, thought to be the first US hybrid project of its kind.

ESS Inc’s long-duration iron electrolyte flow battery energy storage solution will be deployed in a demonstration and test project in Oregon by utility company Portland General Electric. 

After China connected a huge battery to a project combining solar, wind and other generation sources, a US utility project has just been announced which will likewise combine solar and wind with a grid-scale battery.

Australia-headquartered engineering and professional services company WorleyParsons said its first EPC contract for a battery storage project in the US shows how the energy sector is moving from “mega projects” to “portfolios of smaller projects”.

US state of Massachusetts recommends large-scale energy storage installations, sweeping policy changes, and wide-ranging pilot programme, a month after it proposes storage procurement targets for local utilities.

Massachusetts is to become the third US state, after California and Oregon, to impose minimum requirements for usage of energy storage systems.
